International Behavior Therapist (IBT)
Accredited by the International Behavior Analysis Organization (IBAO)
The International Behavior Therapist (IBT) credential is an entry-level professional certification designed for individuals who wish to work in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) under the supervision of qualified professionals.
To obtain the IBT certification, candidates must meet the following requirements in accordance with the standards of the International Behavior Analysis Organization (IBAO).
1. Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must meet the following basic criteria:
Minimum age of 18 years
High school diploma (or equivalent) as a minimum educational requirement
Interest in working in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis and developmental disabilities
2. Completion of IBT Training Program
Candidates must successfully complete a 40-hour IBT training program that covers the fundamental competencies of Applied Behavior Analysis, including:
Foundations of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
Teaching procedures (e.g., DTT, NET)
Behavior reduction strategies
Reinforcement procedures
Data collection and documentation
Professional and ethical guidelines
Working effectively within a multidisciplinary team
3. Competency Assessment
Candidates must demonstrate practical understanding of the training content through a competency or skills assessment conducted by a qualified instructor or supervisor.
4. Final Examination
After completing the training program, candidates must successfully pass the IBT certification examination to demonstrate knowledge of ABA principles and professional practice.
5. Supervised Practice
Certified IBTs must provide services under the supervision of a qualified behavior analyst or supervisor, in accordance with professional practice standards.
6. Professional Ethics and Compliance
All IBT professionals are required to adhere to the ethical and professional standards established by the
International Behavior Analysis Organization (IBAO).
7. Certification Maintenance
To maintain active certification, IBTs must comply with renewal requirements and continuing professional development as determined by the board.
